Why French Women Dont Get Fat: Is Grassfed Meat the Answer?"Why French Women Dont Get Fat" by Mireille Guiliano extols the virtues of eating slowly and choosing quality ingredients. Much of the meat and cheese consumed in France is the highest quality--grassfed. The author doesn't dwell on this, yet the significance may be more than she realizes. . . . French women have the reputation of enjoying good food and still being glamorous, amorous and. . .slender. Fresh ingredients combined with slow, sensuous eating and drinking is the key, claims Guiliano. However, little-known facts reveal more truth. Facts that may clarify the actual reason why French women dont get fat! Grassfed recipes make a difference. The meat, milk and eggs eaten in France are generally pasture raised and contain mega amounts of omega 3 fatty acids. The diet in France averages an omega 6 to omega 3 ratio of 9 to 1. Why is that so important? How does that affect weight loss? Omega 6 fatty acids and omega 3 fatty acids are both essential fatty acids (EFA's). We can't live without either of them. Since our bodies can't manufacture EFA's, they must come from the foods we eat. The all-important ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids in our food significantly impacts weight. A low ratio of omega 6's to omega 3's is a plus and a 1:3 ratio is considered ideal. A 1:3 ratio leads to overall health, strength and sustainable weight control. Now, why French Women don't get fat? On average, experts estimate the ratio of omega 6's to omega 3's in the US is 25:1--way (or should I say "weigh") out of balance. In England the ratio is 16:1--better. In France the ratio is 9:1--better yet. Apparently good enough to keep French women slender! If you doubt, think about this. A whopping 30% of Americans are at least 30 pounds heavier than their optimum healthy weight. Only 11% of French women are obese according to recent statistics. Grassfed recipes, along with some of the other concepts Guiliano suggests, can make a healthier, happier you! Grassfed recipes are part of the mystery why French women don't get fat!
